Your Team Already Has an AI Coworker. Does Yours Know How to Use It?
Anthropic just changed what it means to have AI on your team.
The new tool is called Claude Tag, and it lives inside Slack. You tag it like you would a coworker. You hand it a task. It breaks that task into steps, works through them using whatever tools and data it has been given access to, and reports back in the thread when it is done.
That last part is the piece worth slowing down on. This is not a chatbot you open in a separate window, ask a question, and close. This is AI sitting inside the channel where your team already talks, already plans, and already gets work done.
What Claude Tag Actually Does
Here is the simple version.
- You type @Claude in a Slack channel, the same way you would tag a teammate
- You give it a task in plain language
- Claude works through that task in stages, using the tools and data it has permission to access
- It posts the result back in the thread for the whole team to see
It also has what Anthropic calls ambient mode. That means Claude can notice when a task has gone quiet and follow up on its own, without anyone reminding it. If a thread stalls out, Claude can nudge it forward.
Right now this is available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team plan customers. If your business runs on a different plan, this is still worth knowing about, because it tells you where things are headed.

Why This Matters If You Are a Small Business Owner
I talk to business owners every week who think AI is something you visit. You open a tab, you ask ChatGPT or Claude a question, you get an answer, you close the tab. That is one way to use AI, and it is a fine way to start.
But the bigger shift happening right now is AI moving from a tool you visit to a teammate that is already in the room. Claude Tag is one of the clearest examples of that shift so far.
Think about how much time your team spends repeating context. Someone asks a question that was already answered three weeks ago in a different thread. A task gets handed off and the new person has to start from scratch because nobody wrote down what happened. A project goes quiet and nobody notices until a deadline is already missed.
An AI teammate that remembers what has already been discussed and follows up when things stall is not a gimmick. It is hours back in your week, every week.

What I Want You to Do With This Information…
You do not need to implement Claude Tag today. You do not even need to be on Slack. What I want you to take from this is the pattern, because the pattern is going to repeat across every tool you already use.
AI is moving into the places where work already happens. Not as a separate destination. As a participant.
That means the businesses pulling ahead over the next year will not be the ones with the flashiest AI subscription. They will be the ones who understood early that AI works best when it is built into the workflow, not bolted on as an extra step.
This is exactly the kind of shift I help business owners plan for. Not by chasing every new tool that launches, but by figuring out where AI actually fits into how your business already runs, and building from there.
If you want help figuring out what that looks like for your business, book a free AI training consultation. We will look at where you are right now and map out where AI can actually save you time, not just add another app to check.
